I follow Christy Turlington on Twitter. For those of you who do not know her, she was a famous supermodel in the 1990's. She was my favorite model growing up, and for that alone I decided to follow her.
Many of her tweets focus of her humanitarianism. (I was unaware she did any of it!)
I checked out her website ( http://christyturlington.com/) and am very impressed with her work, specifically her documentary "Every Mother Counts" which "seeks to engage new audiences to better understand the challenges and the solutions while encouraging them to take action to improve the lives of girls and women
worldwide." The trailer alone brought me to tears. The site is packed with alarming stats, for example: "A woman dies every 90 seconds from complications of pregnancy. 90% of deaths are preventable."
This is a wonderful blog, and I applaud Ms. Turlington for not taking the easy "supermodel diet tips" on the web.

Sporty Spice
I personally do not enjoy sports. I am married to a soccer junkie, so I'll glance at the television on occasion when a game is on, but I'd rather be watching Golden Girl re-runs.
I do have girlfriends who are bigger fanatics then some guys, and for these ladies I suggest: http://thefootballgirl.com/
I had 2 friends (girls, of course) check out the site and here is the feedback I received:
"It's actually about football! Other sports sites targeted towards women focus more on looking cute during games. This website has real sport stories. AMAZING!"
I think that about sums it up. So for ladies who enjoy sports, this is the site for you.

Launchy Ladies
http://www.ladieswholaunch.com/
A website for female entrepreneurs, this site provides leads and information for creating, building and running a business. The website is clear and organized, has interviews with successful women (famous and non) which shares their ups and down, and of course, accomplishments.
You can sign up for a news letter and view upcoming events in your state.

What's out there?
There is an abundance of websites on the internet. From obtaining your FBI file (http://www.getmyfbifile.com/) to tickling the ivories from your computer (http://www.virtualpiano.net/), you name it, it's there.
Last week I decided to ask 3 different classmates their favorite sites, and to be honest, they were boring and predictable. Brainless sites I was hoping to avoid and not associate with my blog. (How many diet pointers are there for women, geez!!)
I decided to Google "websites for women" and at the top of the list was "Forbes Top 100 Websites for Women". What a great list!! News for women, career blogs, mom sites, lifestyle, sex, recipes, etc...Fabulous websites for ladies with brains.
I'm picking a few to report on next.

Women and the Internet
Women are enthusiastic online communicators. 53% of adult females use social media on a weekly basis. (socialmediatoday.com)
What sites? What do women search? Are there websites directed specifically towards women?
What makes certain webpages more popular than others?
Join me in discovering women and the web. Every week I plan to search different pages, media sites and social networks to find out why they become popular in the female world and why.
I will also chat with women from the university to find out what websites they enjoy.
